Questions
How is the AP Gov score calculated?
Each section is turned into a percentage of its maximum and weighted: multiple choice 50%, free-response points 50%. The weighted total is compared with estimated cutoffs for a 5, 4, 3 and 2.
Are the cutoffs official?
No. College Board doesn't publish the raw-score conversion for each exam, and the cutoffs move a few points from year to year. These are estimates from past score curves, so treat the result as a range, not a guarantee.
What AP Gov score do I need to pass?
A 3 is usually considered passing. On this calculator that is about 45% of the weighted maximum, though many colleges only give credit for a 4 or 5.
Where do I get my section scores?
Take a timed practice exam, count your correct multiple-choice answers, and score your free-response answers with the official scoring guidelines for that exam, or ask a teacher to score them.
