Tips for using it

Find the greatest common factor

Divide the top and bottom by their greatest common factor in one step, or by any common factor again and again until none is left.

Check with division

If the top and bottom have no common factor other than 1, the fraction is in simplest form.

Mixed numbers

Hard turns improper fractions into mixed numbers: 27/6 becomes 9/2, which is 4 1/2.

Questions

Is reducing fractions the same as simplifying?

Yes. Both mean writing the fraction in lowest terms, so 12/18 becomes 2/3.

Is there an answer key?

Yes, on a separate page after the problems.

Which grade is this for?

Equivalent fractions start in 3rd and 4th grade; simplifying is practiced through 5th and 6th grade.

Is it free?

Yes, free and unlimited with no sign-up.
