| Definition of the derivative | f′(x) = lim (h→0) [f(x + h) − f(x)] / h |
| Power rule | d/dx xⁿ = nxⁿ⁻¹ |
| Product rule | (fg)′ = f′g + fg′ |
| Quotient rule | (f/g)′ = (f′g − fg′) / g² |
| Chain rule | d/dx f(g(x)) = f′(g(x)) · g′(x) |
| Derivatives of trig functions | (sin x)′ = cos x; (cos x)′ = −sin x; (tan x)′ = sec² x |
| Derivatives of eˣ and ln x | (eˣ)′ = eˣ; (ln x)′ = 1/x |
| First derivative test | f′ changes + to −: relative max. f′ changes − to +: relative min. |
| Mean Value Theorem | If f is continuous on [a, b] and differentiable on (a, b), some c has f′(c) = (f(b) − f(a))/(b − a). |
| Fundamental Theorem of Calculus | ∫ₐᵇ f(x) dx = F(b) − F(a), and d/dx ∫ₐˣ f(t) dt = f(x). |
| Average value of a function | (1/(b − a)) ∫ₐᵇ f(x) dx |
| Disk method | V = π ∫ₐᵇ [R(x)]² dx |
| Exponential growth model | dy/dt = ky has solution y = y₀e^(kt). |

About the AP Calculus AB exam
- Section I: multiple choice, 50% of the score. Part A is without a calculator; Part B requires a graphing calculator.
- Section II: 6 free-response questions in 90 minutes, 50% of the score. Two allow a graphing calculator and four do not.
- Most of the exam is non-calculator, so practice derivative and integral rules by hand.
